I’ve Got Life

18 Jun

I have life.

I can laugh and sing and play. I can swim in the ocean and feel sunlight on my skin.

I can smell Jasmine blossoms blooming and rest in the Weeping Willow’s shade.

I can dance among falling raindrops and lick snowflakes from the sky.

I can hear birdsong from my window or the rustling autumn leaves.

I can stroll a city sidewalk on a warm evening or leap through a meadow of daisies.

I can hold a loving hand and I can embrace you so you know I care.

I can be a child and a father; a sister and a friend.

I can love. Surely this is life’s great gift?

I can simply be and for this I can be grateful that I’ve got life.

Happy Friday.

If I could not fail…

4 Jun

Edited by Happy Friday - Image courtesy Federico Stevanin

If I could not fail I would chase all my dreams to fruition.

If I could not fail I would take every chance to find more love, more joy, more life.

If I could not fail I would lead the world to peace and harmony.

If I could not fail I would seek most of all to know myself.

If rejection was not an option I would get closer: to you, to God, to all that exists. I would love everything and everyone completely with all the love I have. I would fill each heart in the world with my care. I would be genuine and soft.

If hurt did not exist I would be vulnerable and real. I would be authentic and naive and innocent. I would banish cynicism and pride. I would play freely like a toddler with a new and unusual toy.

I would be open, free and authentically me if I knew I could not fail. Would you?

Go for it! Live a little. Live a lot. Happy Friday.

Increase the Peace: End the Violence

21 May

In a discussion that came up surrounding the Jo’burg production of the Vagina Monologues this week the discussion led to a statement by a gentleman unknown to me who said: “Violence is not something done by a man against a woman, it is something done by a person against another person.”

I was moved by this as it brought two points home for me. Firstly, we’re all just people – a hurt on one of us is a hurt on all of us.  And secondly, it is time for our species to start living in peace, tenderness and concern for each other, now. The expiry date of violence, abuse and neglect has surely passed.

It seems we have held on too long to these things and they no longer serve us. What purpose does an abuse, a rape, a beating, a molestation serve? They do not make us wiser, nor stronger, nor happier, nor safer. We don’t move forward.

Certainly if we are to become wiser, stronger, safer and move forward as a civilisation we must unite to create a just and safe society for all, now. It is time for us now to band together and end all forms of violence against all people and things. It is time for us to release our ancient barbarism and embrace our latter day civility.

It is time, now, to stand together for the safety of all men, women and children from the scourge of violence and abuse. Would you take up this challenge? Would you be a conduit for peace and a warrior to protect others?

Let us end this old era of violence and usher in a new era of peace. We owe it to our children. We owe it to ourselves.

Happy Friday.

Drumroll Please…

7 May

Time, it is said, waits for no man. Likewise no man should wait for time – especially not “the right time”.

It is never the right time. There is always reason to wait, to see how things pan out, to be logical, to be hesitant, to overthink things. And while consideration is necessary for success, to win in life we must emphasise action.

It is when we fearlessly launch headfirst into action that we take the first steps to success. The world in which we live rewards action rather than thinkingand surely thought alone is insufficient for success.

Mastery of thought is a noble aim. But when we master doing we master being.

Be a winner. Take action NOW towards your dreams. It is Friday after all.

Happy Friday Winners

30 Apr

Winning is the process of overcoming failure.

You may not avoid failure, nor is the road to success smoothly paved. Yet it is in failing and trying again and again until you win that the winners are separated from the losers.

Like driving along a potholed road, getting to success requires vigilance, patience and the will to get out and fix things when they come undone.

If you pay attention and ask “why did I go wrong?” as often as you ask “what did I do right?” you may find that each success becomes a prelude to another success as each failure becomes a lesson in how not to succeed.

In observing these lessons in how to and how not to win we can more clearly construct a map to our ultimate success.

And it is in how you look at small successes and failures that you decide whether you are a winner or whether you’re not.

Happy Friday Winners!!

Thanks for all the fish…

What a home we all share.

Her majesty, grace and beauty are beyond comparison or comprehension.

The mysterious ocean depths- with raging volcanic peaks, uniquely alien life forms and the roaring stillness of deep down- what beauty!

The land that gives us life. Warm sand. Soft grass. Cool shade under a Willow’s weepy frame. Such simple awesomeness surrounds us.

Just breathe the air, feel the rain, hear the wind’s rustling- surely this earth is great and good to us?

For the gift of life, for the freedom to roam, for giving us a place to call home- we give grateful thanks to our Earth.

Happy Earth Friday…

U Live & U Learn & U Learn To Love To Live

15 Apr

In the deepest trenches
you will always be drawn to the sliver of light.

The darkest of hearts

will inevitably be touched by
the purity of love
and in that split second,
be lit.

Be ready to fall down that rabbit hole.

Until you stumble, you will never truly know the Glory of picking yourself up.
